About Me

Hey sugah!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. It’s kinda funny to me that I even have a blog, because I’ve never been good at keeping a journal for more than a week! On a whim, I began blogging in 2007 and fell in love with it. I started The YeYo Diaries in 2010 when I found out I was pregnant as a way to document my journey into motherhood for the first time. This little virtual scrapbook of mine has become that and so much more!

I live in sunny Southern California where, contrary to what Tony! Toni! Tone! may have told you – it does rain on occasion! I am married to the cutest geek in all the land and the most special little girl ever, calls me mommy. My life is busy, but good. Sometimes I get overwhelmed by this idea of being a “grown up,” but I’ve come to accept that I don’t have it all figured out. And that’s okay.

I describe myself as fearless in the tag line, but that doesn’t mean I never get scared (of life, stress, or spiders), I’m simply learning how to fear, less.

If you feel that way too, I think you’ll enjoy it here. I write with humor and honesty about marriage, motherhood, pop culture, and a variety of other random things that tickle my fancy. Some of my work has been featured on BlackandMarriedwithKids.com, Pampers.com, and BlogHer.com. Pretty cool for someone who’s terrible at journaling, huh?

Thanks again for visiting and I hope you come back everyday soon!

P.S. This photo is old, but I love it too much to change it. It captures exactly how I was feeling when I started this blog and motherhood: a little scared, very excited, and completely in love.

Also, lots of people ask me, “What does ‘ye yo’ mean? Well, according to the ancient book of wisdom, aka Google, it’s the word for mother in the language of the Masai Tribe in Kenya. I was inspired by Erykah Badu’s song of the same name during my pregnancy, and decided to name the blog after it.

So yeah, there’s that.
